Antique (probably early to mid 20th century), undated and unmarked mortar and pestle. Both showing patina, however the mortar more with some tarnish on the inside. I believe the two were not originally paired but later matched. The butt of the pestle as well as the bottom of the mortar has some tar. If you hold the pestle up to your nose and smell the tar it smells like coffee bean which leads one to conclude someone at some point may have been trying to grind coffee beans with this, however there is no standing odor. Together the mortar and pestle weigh about 2 3/4 and stands about 5 inches with the pestle inside the mortar. Pestle alone weighs about 1 pound and measures about 6 1/8 inches long with the butt measuring about 1 1/8 inches in diameter. Mortar alone weighs about 1 3/4 pounds and stands about 2 7/8 inches tall with the base’s diameter about 2 3/4 inches and the mouth’s 4 inches.
